Millimetre-wave radar enhances road safety

I’m sure you’ve all been thoroughly brainwashed by this iconic line from the film *The Wandering Earth*, and jokes based on it have been popping up left, right and centre.

We all know we must follow the rules of the road and prioritise safety, but due to the existence of blind spots, relying solely on drivers to adhere to the rules cannot fully guarantee road safety. This is particularly true for large lorries and goods vehicles, whose blind spots are far greater than most people realise. The image shows the blind spots of a large lorry, as measured in a real-world test.


It is common knowledge that passenger cars are equipped with BSD (Blind Spot Detection) radar, but when it comes to large lorries, there does not seem to be sufficient emphasis on this in China at present. If relevant regulations were introduced to promote the installation of BSD radar on large lorries, this would be of great benefit to road safety.

As a leading domestic manufacturer of millimetre-wave radar chips, Sijie Microelectronics has already achieved mature mass production of the low-cost, single-transmitter/single-receiver 24GHz millimetre-wave radar chip SRK1101A and the high-performance, single-transmitter/single-receiver 24GHz millimetre-wave radar chip SRK1102A. whilst the high-performance 24 GHz millimetre-wave radar chip SRK1201L, featuring one transmitter and two receivers, has already been adopted by numerous BSD radar module manufacturers.

In addition to traditional 24 GHz millimetre-wave radar transceiver chips, at the end of 2018, Sijie Microelectronics also launched a highly integrated 24 GHz millimetre-wave chip with a PLL, which can further simplify system design for users and reduce module costs. 77/79 GHz millimetre-wave radar chips are also under simultaneous development, thereby forming a comprehensive range of millimetre-wave radar chip solutions.

With the support of domestically produced millimetre-wave radar chips, the heavy goods vehicles driven by protagonists in films would no longer be crashing into things indiscriminately.
